The GB Aim: Life to the Full
The aim of the Girls’ Brigade is to help girls become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and through self control, reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life.
“That’s it then.”
“Yeah, I guess so, that’s definitely it.”
“Funny really, the way it’s been. I mean, I didn’t expect it to be like this.”
“Well, it’s bound to be though isn’t it … what else could it be?”
“So that’s it. Well, who’d have guessed it?”
“Yeah, that’s it – LIFE! … Brilliant, fun, fulfilling, demanding, hard, worth it!!!
It reads almost like the build up to a comedy sketch, which would probably continue in a far less positive vein, emphasising the pointlessness of life – you’re born, grow, work, retire and die. Except that, for followers of Jesus, there is more to life than inevitability! Jesus’ first disciples were no different from us today.
They lived ordinary lives, worked, relaxed, had friends and family … then they met Jesus. Their lives continued – yet were changed! New relationships, fresh perspective and challenge, incredible power and an overwhelming experience of being specifically loved and chosen by Jesus became their testimony.
John 10: 10 – “… I have come that they may have life … to the full.”
Romans 5: 6-8 – “… God demonstrates his own love for us … Christ died for us.”
We are disciples. We too have met with Jesus and begun this relationship with him. Our lives will continue and change! Jesus called his first disciples ‘friends’. The basis of security and real fulfilment in any relationship is one of trust in the other person’s love. Status, looks and ability do not count! Jesus’ demonstration of love for this friends offer this complete security.
Am I safe in Jesus’ love?
- In what ways am I conscious of Jesus’ presence with me, and love for me?
- Are there any doubts or fears that keep me from being confident of his love – do I allow Jesus to meet me in them?
- Am I seeking God’s purpose for my life?
- Am I willing to recognise the gifts God has given me, and allow the Holy Spirit to develop tem?
Recognising the pressure on girls to earn value or acceptability, do you talk freely and openly with them about the joy and safety of being loved by the Lord Jesus?
Is your life an example of a disciple who wants to make her life count for God?
Ephesians 3: 14-19
Romans 12: 3-8
Read Eph 3: 14-19 and Romans 12: 3-8, and invite the Holy Spirit to speak to you about your worth and calling as a disciple of Jesus.
Thank you Jesus for loving me so much. My desire is to give my life completely to your purposes. I know, Lord, that trusting and following you will bring me joy and fulfilment. Thank you!
