Reflection: February

Priscilla Penny

By Priscilla Penny

Priscilla is IVP for Africa. She lives in Harare, Zimbabwe with husband Claudio. As well as all that she does for GB, Priscilla and Claudio also have a busy family life, keeping abreast of all that’s happening in the lives of their four children and five grandchildren!

Isaiah 41 : 10 (NIV) So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Throughout our life’s journey we will, at times, find ourselves in very scary situations: we may face mortal danger, major illness, financial challenge. We may need to take a stance on certain issues, stand up for the truth, take up a new position etc.

These challenges take courage. True courage in our lives comes from understanding that God is bigger and stronger than our biggest problems or our strongest enemy or our highest calling, and that his power is at our disposal.

Isaiah 41:10 seeks to silence our fears and encourage our faith.

What fears are we facing in our lives, what challenges do see ahead of us in 2016 as God’s Servants in a Mission to transform lives ?

God may not take away the fears and challenges that await us in 2016, but he promises to be with us all the way. His presence can give us the courage to stand up and be bold.

Joshua 1 :1 – 9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you ? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Moses had just spent 40 years leading the children of Israel, and his time was up and he was to pass on the reigns to Joshua. In the first 9 verses of Joshua Chapter 1, God gives Joshua a pep talk in preparation for his task. It is the same in our journey today, his command is for us to be courageous and to be bold enough to go out there and transform lives.

At ICGB in 2014 we were challenged to “Go and Grow”. Are we bold enough to take the necessary steps to turn any threats and challenges we face in GB into opportunities for growth ?
