The Gathering: December 2013

Published on June 26, 2013

Venue: ‘Nerina’ campus, University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa .

Dates: 7th – 14th December 2013.

GB Africa is proud to be hosting The Gathering as a special celebration of GB’s 120th year in mission.

This is the first ever ‘Gathering’ event for young women in GB around the world, and is being planned and delivered by a small team of women from different parts of the world, alongside the GB South Africa host team.

The theme for the event is ‘Inside Out’, based on something the early church leader Paul said to the church in Rome as it began to grow:

‘So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you’ Romans 12 v 1 The Message

The Gathering is an important initiative for GB, part of a wider strategy of the International GB team to encourage young women to establish global friendships and work together to

  • Discover what its like to live as young women of faith in different cultures around the world
  • Learn how to take a lead and be a voice for girls of this generation
  • Prepare to speak into the worldwide leadership of GB at the 2014 International GB conference in Perth – about mission amongst girls in this generation
  • Enjoy being young women, loved by God
