Easter Devotional: A Place, A Pouring, A Promise
Where do you meet with God? Do you have a special place – somewhere quiet, safe, and peaceful – where you sit in His presence? Maybe it’s a favourite chair, a corner of your home, or even a spot outdoors. A place where the noise fades, your heart softens, and you become aware of the Holy Spirit with you.
We all long for that sacred space… and so did Jesus.
In the week leading up to His death and resurrection, Jesus often went to the Mount of Olives—a place of prayer, surrender, and intimate conversation with His Father. It was His place of honesty, where He spoke openly about what was to come.
In John 12:23–26, Jesus speaks of His coming death, describing it like a seed:
Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
Jesus knew that through His death, new life would come. He chose to lay down His life so that millions – yes, including you and me – could rise, grow, and multiply as His followers.
What a miracle. New life . . . born through sacrifice.
A Fragrance of Love
In Matthew 26:6–13, we see a beautiful, intimate moment . . .
A woman enters the room carrying an alabaster jar of expensive perfume. Without hesitation, she pours it out on Jesus – an extravagant act of love and worship.
The fragrance would have filled the entire house.
While others questioned her actions, Jesus honoured her.
This woman held nothing back. She poured out what was precious, costly, and deeply personal.
And isn’t that what Jesus has done for us?
He poured out His life – completely, sacrificially, and lovingly – so that we could experience a restored, beautiful relationship with Him.
Her offering was a fragrance. His offering was salvation.
When we give our lives to Him – our time, our hearts, our worship – it becomes a sweet fragrance too.
It Is Finished . . . But Not the End
Then came the cross.
Jesus’ body broken. His final words: “It is finished.”
And then . . . silence.
Can you imagine the weight of that silence? The grief. The confusion. The waiting.
But Sunday was coming.
In Matthew 28:1–6, everything changes:
“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.”
The grave could not hold Him. Death was defeated. Hope was restored.
He is risen! He is risen indeed!
What This Means for Us
Because of Jesus:
- Your broken places can be made whole
- Your past does not define your future
- New life is not just possible – it is promised!
Just as a seed must fall to produce life, Jesus gave everything so that you could live fully in Him.
And just like the woman with the perfume, you are invited to respond – to pour out your love, your worship, your life before Him.
Reflection
- Where is your “meeting place” with God?
- What might it look like for you to pour out your life more fully for Jesus?
- Where do you need to embrace the promise of new life this Easter?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, Thank You for giving everything for me. Thank You for the cross, for the silence, and for the miracle of the empty tomb. Help me to meet with You daily, to create space for Your presence in my life. Teach me to pour out my love like a fragrant offering, holding nothing back. And remind me this Easter that because You live, I have new life, new hope, and a new future.
Amen
